Spring 91  with Hossein Sadri’s paintings at Sareban Gallery

Sareban Gallery is displaying paintings of Mr. Hossein Sadri from 13th  to 23rd April 2012 , titled

“ The roaring of the Chachi Kaman “.

The during this period 30 of Mr. Sadri’s artworks , mixed media on canvas , goes on display. The title refers to a poem from “ The book of  the kings “ by Iranian epic poet  Ferdowsi   referring to the sound of bow string when pulled .

When talking about his artworks  Mr. Sadri  explains : “Such subject had never been reflected in my paintings before. I had always been inspired by ethereal subjects of heavenly and untouchable nature and my paintings were mostly under the influence of  spiritual poetries such as those of Hafez. While my recent paintings are inspired by simple and more earthly issues but somehow end up with strange and unknown, and sometimes spiritual results. And this means coming to terms with creativity which forms an essential pillar of Modernity. Mr. Sadri believes that defining  the modern art ,as a reflection of creativeness and incidence in place of  thought and expression of feelings , is in contrast with his artworks as he is trying to fill himself with such feelings while painting.

So the real change in me is just my attention towards new subjects, such as crossing of the street by a pedestrian, a painting on a cracked wall, a car’s tire screeching and its traces on the road, rustling of grass when stepped on or chirping rusted hinges  of an old door are among some of  the simplest subjects which inspired my recent works.

Before this I was engaged with modern subjects on the request of a very respectful friend of mine  to whom I owe most of my works but could never feel satisfaction either for myself or for him until I there was a change in my feeling towards the subjects. During my long solitude and separation from art society I reached such satisfaction that it was only the insistence of some of my friends that encouraged me to set up this exhibition.

Hossein Sadri is born 1958 and is a graduate of Faculty of Fine Arts of Tehran University . He had many individual as well as group exhibition of his artworks ,both nationally as well as internationally until 1980’s. He has also directed three short movies and 5 books has been published by him regarding his paintings. Mr. Sadri is the founder of Amirkabir Cultural center and its acting director for 6 years.

“ NEYESTAN “ BEING UNVEILD AT SAREBAN GALLERY

15 of Mr. Mohammad Saeed Naghashian’s  artworks went on display at Sareban Gallery on Friday Feb.24th during an exhibition titled “ Neyestan” at the presence of such dignitaries  as Master Hamid Adjami , Dr. Mohammad Reza kalaei, Iraj Shayestehpour, Azim Zarinkoob, Mr. Jahandar Sarshar, H.E. Mr. Nikolaz Nakhutsrishvili  the Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Georgia in Tehran, Mr. Gholamreza Firoozi, Ms. Hengameh Sadri, Mr. Bahram Najafi and many notable personalities .

Mr. Naghashian’s creations in the form of painting-calligraphy  is an inspiration of the poem “Listen to  Ney (the reed-flute) that is complaining “ from first chapter of Mowlavis “Mathnawi” . Hamid Reza Shojaei ( Kamancheh ) , Mr. Mohammad Reza Tavakolzadeh ( Tombak) and Dr. Mohammadreza Kalaei ( vocal ) preformed at the opening ceremony with lines form  the “ Ney “.

As Mr. Naghashian puts it : the Neyestan is the result of 21 years of work in the field of traditional calligraphy , being presented in an altered form. “Neyestan “ is the story of  a  Fire ablaze in a reed-bed , burning all,  the reed and the reed-bed, so that at the end there remains no sign of reed or the reed-bed. But the Ney ( reed) resurrects  and inspires  the reed-player to play.

In this exhibition 19 pieces , symbolizing the first 19 versus of the Mathnawi ,were planned to be Exhibited, but only 15 of them reached the audience.  Mowlana said : “Hear” . So Hearing became a step towards “ perfection” and I draw those hearings into paintings.”

In my paintings I avoided texting and tried to depict the mystic nature of the Ney and the Neyestan in the shape of  Letters. The Neyestan recites the lamentation of the  Ney since it was separated from its Devine roots and so tries to carry away its listener to its imaginary land of the reed-bed. So that what Neyestan recites :

From jungle-bed since me they tore,
Men's, women's, eyes have wept right sore.

My breast I tear and rend in twain,
To give, through sighs, vent to all my pain
.

(Rhymed Translation by Redhouse, 1881)

Neyestan is a symbolic presentation in vertical form , a narrator which narrates with colours , forms and conception. Letters along with allegories of Reed ,aside from other elements, is a narrator of inexistency which ends into existence . Mr. Naghashian  puts it this way : I tried to bring colour and form as close to the concept of Neyestan as possible so that the viewer could understand it and draw his  mind into the land of divine imagination.

Colours are of original Iranian colours and the frames are of reciting nature that keep reciting forever the story of a man who has fallen separated from its divine origins and longs to return to his roots.

Sales of 200,000,000 Rials during the first night  of the exhibition was a proof of public  enthusiasm toward genuine Iranian arts and culture.

The exhibition  will be open to public from Friday February 24th untill Friday March 2nd ,  and will be open to public, visiting hours  4 pm to 8pm   .

SAREBAN GALLERY will be closed on Tuesdays.
